Venezuela E-Visa Application Process 2026: Step-by-Step Guide
Planning a trip to Venezuela? The country has introduced a new electronic visa (e-visa) system that allows travelers to apply online for a tourist visa.
This updated guide explains the Venezuela e-visa application process, required documents, approval times, fees, and how U.S. and Canadian passport holders can apply successfully.
IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER: We personally tested this application system as of June 15, 2026 and documented the steps, screenshots, and real processing timelines. The screenshots shown below may differ from the e-visa website because the Venezuelan authorities are constantly updating the website.
Visa rules can change at any time. This guide is based on the latest available information as of June 15, 2026. Always verify final requirements through official government channels.

What is Venezuela E-visa?
The Venezuela e-visa is an online visa system launched by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that allows travelers to apply digitally instead of visiting an embassy or consulate. This system is now being used for tourist visa applications and has reportedly been extended to travelers from multiple countries, including the United States and Canada.

Before you apply / Documents needed
Before you apply for the e-visa, these are the documents and steps you need to complete:
Documents needed
- Passport copy: The color copy of passport first page.
- Photo: Passport-sized photo. Preferably 2″x2″ (51×51 cms).
- Application form: Filled and signed application form (see detailed steps below).
- Flight reservation: Confirmed flight reservations. This can be booked and cancelled before applying.
- Hotel reservation: Confirmed hotel reservation. This can be booked and cancelled before applying.
- Bank Statement: Latest bank statement (just the first page with name, address and amount).
- Criminal background report: This can be obtained online or at the nearest police department. Important: If the report is in English, then a Spanish-translated version is required.
- Apostille: The criminal background report must be apostilled by the local state government. Important: If the apostille is in English, then a Spanish-translated version is required.
Very important: All the above documents must be in image (JPG) format before you upload.
Steps for filling out the application form
- Step 1 – Use a desktop computer to apply for e-visa. The browsers in mobile phones have reported issues to apply.
- Step 2 – Download the official application form (Word document) from MFA website.
- Step 3 – Fill the application form (Word document) using Microsoft Word or Google Docs. See below for details on some fields.
- Photo – you do not need to attach a photo to this application form.
- Names – Include all names (first, middle, last etc.) This must match the one in your passport.
- Address in Venezuela – Provide name of a hotel in any city. You need a confirmed hotel booking to apply for e-visa.
For example: Renaissance Caracas La Castellana Hotel, located at Av Eugenio Mendoza con Calle Urdaneta, La Castellana, Caracas, 1060. - Airline / Flight no. – Provide flight details to enter Venezuela. You need a confirmed flight booking to apply for e-visa.
For example: AV 142 (this flight is on Avianca airlines from Bogota to Caracas). - Arrival / Departure dates – Provide dates as per your flight details.
- Date / Signature – Provide today’s date. You will need to sign the document and there are two ways – details below.
- Step 4 – After saving the Word document, you can EITHER print this document, sign it, and scan the signed document in to a PDF or JPG; OR you can save this DOC as a PDF, and use Acrobat Reader (or equivalent online tools) to sign and convert to JPG.

UPDATE April 14, 2026 – A confirmed flight reservation is now required to apply for e-visa. We are not sure if this needs to be a reservation that can be changed after you get approval on e-visa, or must be a confirmed reservation upon arrival.

UPDATE May 17, 2026 – An apostilled criminal background report from your local police department is now required to apply for e-visa. The criminal background report must be apostilled by the state government, and both the documents must be in Spanish.
Register for E-visa account
Disclaimer: The screenshots below can be different from the ones on live website. Please note that the e-visa website is new and constantly being updated by Venezuelan authorities.
First step to apply for the e-visa is to register for an account on the MFA official website.
Step 1
Click the “registrate” link.
Step 2
This will open up this page where you select the first three fields as shown in the image.
Important – if you’re not born in the country of your passport, select your passport country for “pais de nacimiento” (country of birth). Do not enter your country of birth even though your passport says so.
Enter your passport number in “Documento de Identidad” field.
Enter your email twice.
Enter a password to register (make sure to follow the instructions mentioned on the right).
Click “Enviar”.
In case if the website shows error, try again!
Step 3
You will get a message in green as shown in the image to verify your email.
Step 4
This is what the email looks like. Click on the button in the email and it will verify your email address. Make sure to check your spam box for an email that comes from “Cancilleria Digital
How to Apply for Venezuela E-Visa (18 steps)
These steps outline how to apply for Venezuela e-visa.

Step 1
After email verification, enter your email address and password, and you will see this screen (see image). On this screen, enter your country and select “permanente”.
For users that are on visa or any other document in the country of residency, then select “transito”, which will ask for details of your documents.
Click Continuar.
Step 2
This will open the second step of registration. Some fields will be automatically filled in and cannot be edited.
Enter your name (first, middle, last, etc.) as per your passport, gender, birth date, marital status.
On the last field “Ciudad donde nacio” (City of birth), enter the city you were born. For users born outside of your passport country, enter the city you currently live in, and not your actual city of birth. (If the city is not available in the list, then we are not sure what your options are!)
Click on “Guardar” button.
Step 3
This will open a screen to upload your passport image. On the “Formato de Documento”, select “Imagen” and upload the first page image of your passport. Remember to have that image as per the guidelines.
Click “Guardar” button.
Step 4
This will display this screen shown in the image. Click “Cerrar” button.
Step 5
On the next screen, enter your address – ciudad (city), Calle (street), edificio/casa (name of building, you can enter your street name as name of building), piso/apto (floor or apartment, enter 0 if you don’t have that), codigo postal (zipcode).
For telephones, you can enter the same number for both fijo and celular.
Click “Guardar” button.
Step 6
This will show the screen to enter your own contact. This is mandatory. Click on the icon highlighted in red in the image.
Step 7
Select “Extranjero”.
Enter your information again.
Click “Guardar” button after filling all details.
Step 8
On the next screen, you can enter family details for contacts only. This is NOT for family traveling with you. Each individual of the family needs separate applications. This step is optional.
Click “Finalizar” button.
Step 9
This is where you actually apply for the e-visa. Click on the “+” button shown in the image to begin.
Step 10
Select the only option from the dropdown indicating the office of consular relations that will view your applciation.
Step 11
On this next screen, you can click the blue button (shown with green highlight) to download the application form, if you haven’t already. Otherwise ignore this.
Click the “+” button (shown in red highlight).
Step 12
This is an important step. Select the region you’re applying the visa from. For U.S. and Canada, select the option highlighted in red. Understandably, we don’t see an option for Asia or other regions, so we are not sure what to select in that case!
UPDATE April, 14, 2026 – Select the type of visa you’re applying for:

On this screen, most fields will be pre-filled and cannot be edited.
For the dates of travel, if you have a confirmed flight then enter those details there. Remember you’re NOT required to upload any flight confirmations on this online application. If you do not have a flight booking (similar to us), enter “AV 142” (Avianca 142 flight from Bogota to Caracas), select a random travel date (this flight is daily), and enter “10:40” as the time (this is the actual flight landing time).

Click “Enviar” button.
Step 14
You have successfully entered all the relevant information. To edit anything, click the ‘pencil’ icon.
This is where you are required to upload documents.
Click the upload icon as highlighted in red.
Step 15
There are some documents that are mandatory to upload as shown by the red *. And each type of document (tipo de documento) will have the option of either “Imagen” or “PDF”. We selected “Imagen” (image) for all the documents.
UPDATE May 17, 2026 – As opposed to only 3 documents before, now the application requires these documents to be uploaded:
- Boleto de itinerario de viaje – This is the confirmed flight reservation.
- Foto tamañno carnet, fondo blanco – This is the ID photo with a white background. Sam as the one you used on application form.
- Pasaporte – This is the copy of passport first page.
- Planilla de solicitud – This is the application form.
- Reservacion de hotel o carta de invitacion – This is the confirmed hotel reservation. If you have multiple hotels in different cities, then use the first one only.
- Solvencia economica – This is to prove that you have money to travel to Venezuela. Last bank statement, or similar to be uploaded here.
- Antecedentes penales – This is the criminal background report, which is apostilled. Make sure to upload the Spanish versions.
Step 16
Upload your document here. Make sure to read the guidelines mentioned on the right, and adhere to those else the system will not accept.
Click “Guarder” button after every document selection.
Step 17
This shows all the documents that you’ve uploaded.
Here you can view the document you’ve uploaded, or edit it, if you wish.
Click “Cerar” button.
Step 18
This is the last step to submit. Once you’ve confirmed everything, click the checkmark button highlighted in red to submit your application.
Once done, you will receive an email mentioning the application number, and fees to be paid if any.
Step 18
Update: June 15, 2026: After submitting your application, you are required to pay the visa fees. Click on the green (credit card) icon (highlighted in image). This will navigate you to the payment screen.
Step 19
Update: June 15, 2026: Click on the blue button (shown in image) and a new window will open to pay the visa fees. The fees can vary based on your application nationality.
Step 20
Update: June 15, 2026: Fill in your credit card details in the form in this new window and submit the payment. Once your payment is completed, the status of your application will change.
View Application Status
These are the steps to view status of your submitted application.
Step 1
After logging in, the page will show the application(s) you’ve submitted.
Even if your email you do not have to pay anything, the status here will always show “Pagada”, so ignore that.
In case you need to make a payment, you will see an icon next to “Pagada” where you can make a payment.
In our case there was no fee for e-visa so we never saw the payment icon.
Click on the book icon (shown in red highlight) to view the payment receipt. We recommend clicking this to open a new browser window with a PDF. Save that PDF and take it with you during your visit.
Click on the search icon (shown in green highlight) to view your actual visa status.
Step 2
While your application is in process, the status here will show “En Proceso”.
Once your application is approved, this status shows “Firmado” and the icon next to it is the image/PDF of your approved e-visa. You will receive an email once your status changes.
Step 3

Venezuela E-visa FAQs
- Do I need my account to say “Aprobado” before applying?
No. Some people applied and were approved even while the account still said “Enviado.” - My account says “Enviado.” Is that bad?
Not necessarily. Several approved applicants still had that status. - I didn’t get the verification email. What should I do?
Check spam and wait a little. For some people it arrived hours later. - The website gives errors / doesn’t work.
The system is buggy. Try another browser, clear cache, or try again later. - My city doesn’t appear in the form.
Use the closest major city. - What do I enter for flight info if I don’t have a ticket yet?
Use your planned dates. For flight info, some people entered N/A. Use your planned dates.

Follow the step by step process above. Ensure you select “Natural” as the type of applicant. Selecting “Jurídica” is for businesses and leads to different forms. - Has anyone been approved yet?

Based on several reports, anywhere from a few hours to around 10 days. - How much does it cost for Venezuela e-visa?
Update: June 15, 2026: The e-visa fees may vary on the nationality of your application. - How long is the tourist e-visa valid?
Approved members reported receiving a 1-year, multiple-entry e-visa. - What if I’m married to a Venezuelan?
You have 2 options: Tourist e-visa; or Transeunte Familiar through an embassy/consulate. - Is the family visa available online in the electronic system?
No. The electronic system appears to be for tourist and business visas only. - If I married outside Venezuela and want the family visa, do I need to register the marriage in Venezuela?
Usually yes. That process is called inserción de acta de matrimonio.
Pro Tips for Approval
- Use a desktop computer, not mobile.
- Match passport details exactly.
- Upload clean, readable files.
- Keep file sizes small. Usually 3MB with 1000 pixels width.
- Apply 2–4 weeks before travel.
- Save confirmation emails and PDFs.
Final Thoughts
The new Venezuela e-visa system has made the visa process easier for travelers who previously needed embassy appointments. While the portal may still have glitches, many travelers are successfully receiving approvals.
