Air Kenya to halt operations on Masai Mara’s airstrip

July 20, 2015

Citing lack of minimum safety standards, Air Kenya will halt operations into the Masai Mara’s main airfield, Keekorok, with immediate effect. This means that if you’re already booked on those flights, then you need to contact your tour operators or Air Kenya directly for alternate arrangements.

Instead of Keekorok airstrip, Air Kenya will have all pick ups or drop offs to Olkiombo Airstrip, which is about 47 km (about 1.5 hour drive between the airstrips) from Keeorok. This affects all the air safaris during the peak annual migration period. Dropping this airstrip will no doubt cause challenges for lodge and camp operators which rely on the use of this particular airfield.

SALE: WOW Air – $99 One Way: Boston / Baltimore to Paris / Amsterdam

July 15, 2015

Icelandic low-cost carrier WOW Air started services to some destinations in Europe from U.S. last year. And now they have announced $99 fares one-way to Paris (CDG) and Amsterdam (AMS) from Boston (BOS) and Baltimore-Washington (BWI), the two airports served by WOW in the U.S.

Dates for this fare are limited. When you’re flying with WOW to AMS or CDG, you would not actually be flying non-stop from BOS or BWI to your destination, but flights stop in Reykjavik (KEF). However, WOW has set up their schedule in a way which ensures that, barring unforeseen circumstances, all connections are short (usually under 2.5 hours) and comfortable (no need to change terminals or pass through security again).
