Mumbai Local Trains – iOS apps review

There are a bunch of apps available on Mumbai Local Trains and here’s our review of some of them available for free in iTunes:

Mumbai local train system has three main lines – Central, Western and Harbour. This app is not applicable to the Central and Harbour lines at the time of publishing this, which essentially makes it useful only for one line. It shows the map of all the lines and stations along the way.

Select the start and destination stations and the app will give a list of all the slow (stopping at all stations) and fast (stopping at selected stations) trains with their origination station. Tap on any one of them will show all the stations on the route, and not just the selected ones.

You can also calculate the rates between your selected stations. This app is erroneous on a lot of levels. Have you used it? Send your comments.

Another basic app that will give you a list of trains as per your selection of the start and destination stations. Upon selecting the start station, the list of destination stations changes and shows only the ones on the same line as that of start station. Similar to the above app, this will not let you set stations on different lines, and give appropriate results.

Some of the extras are Autorickshaw and Taxi fares – Just enter the number shown on the meter and the app will calculate the amount to be paid, which is very useful for not to be fooled by the drivers.

Firstly, iLocal.Mumbai is actually a pretty useful app if you are ever in Mumbai… but since you are in LA you wouldn’t know. Second, please tell me of any other app on the IOS system which allows you to input stations from various lines and shows you the route, because I don’t know of any. Finally, the fare calculator is not about how long you sit in traffic. what it does is it allows you to keep from getting screwed over by the rickshaw driver. You enter the number on the meter and it tells you what the proper fare should be which prevents the driver from overcharging the passenger by showing them a fake fare card. So before you give a 1 star review, maybe you should use the app first

      Hi Rani,
Thanks for the update and finding an error in our review. We really appreciate it.
This was definitely an error from our side and we have rectified it. Even though we are in Los Angeles, our team members are in Mumbai and other cities in India, so that we can review apps that are used by locals.

      Thanks
      Andrew
