Our last day in Iceland was waking up early, having a quick breakfast at the hotel and catching the flight back home. So we walked to the bus station for about 10 mins in hope of catching the 8:30am bus to Keflavik airport.
Our flight was at 12:30pm from Keflavik (KEF) to JFK New York (JFK), and it takes the bus just less than an hour to reach the airport from city center. The airport’s departures area is on the other side of the arrivals, on the same level. We headed for the immigration desk, got the exit stamp and walked up to the first level for tax-returns and currency exchange.
NOTE on Tax-return: If you have a return amount of more than ISK 5000 then you must get a customs stamp on the ground level before walking through security and immigration. This is right next to the rental car offices.
You can get your returns in two ways – cash or credit card. If you choose to take cash then there’s a fee, but if you choose to have a credit on your credit card, there’s no fee.
And right next to the tax-return is the currency exchange, and that’s where we headed.
The flight was on time and it was time to say good-bye!
