First electric public bus launched in Gothenburg, Sweden

June 15, 2015

Gothenburg is the first city in the world to launch electric buses starting June 15, 2015. Not only are the buses silent and emission-free, they run on electricity from wind power and hydropower. Bus route 55 has three completely electrically driven Volvo buses and seven electric hybrid buses that runs from Chalmers Johanneberg to Chalmers Lindholmen, through the center of Gothenburg.

Apart from being powered by renewable energy, the buses have phone charging facilities and on-board WiFi giving additional perks to passengers. The terminal stops provide quick recharging stations; and passengers can enter and exit from the Chalmers Lindholmen stop that has an indoor terminal.
