This experience is from our trip to Bolivia in July 2013

Firstly, there are a lot of tour companies in Uyuni offering the same tour(s) around Salar de Uyuni. So shop around; contact various companies for rates and tour plans, before deciding on any one company. Having said that, I decided on Red Planet Expeditions after reading multiple reviews online that were more positive than negative.

Many travelers have rates guide Gonzalo as a terrible, so beware of that. I was lucky enough to have Oscar as our guide because he was kind, funny, helpful, friendly and spoke perfect English.

The tour costs BOB 1,200, that sounded ridiculously high amount to some of my fellow travelers because they claimed to have heard about same tours for half the price, but based on the scores, this was a good choice for all the reasons mentioned above, and because the guest houses for overnight accommodation were very nice and comfortable.

The staff at the office was honest enough to inform us well in advance that access to Laguna Colarada might not be possible if there was snow. One would expect them not to charge their customers in that case, but there’s no way to know until you actually reach there and check with the park rangers.

All in all, this was the best choice I could make for great service, helpful & friendly guide and cozy rooms.
