Translate text in real-time on iOS with Slated
Bang for buck:
Ease of use:
There are tons of language translation apps on iOS and while most of them like Google Translate are free, they require internet or data network to work. Although apps like Smigin work offline, it is restricted to certain phrases for now.
If you want to send a text message to friends who speak a different language, you have to use those apps to translate and then copy-paste the translated message.
But Slated is an iOS keyboard that translates while you type, and can also translate what’s sent back to you.
At a price tag of $4.99, this keyboard translates about 81 languages in real-time to the selected language below the text entry bar as you type. All you need to do is tap and hold any incoming message in the conversation window, then hit “copy” to see the translation appear in the same window below the text entry bar where your own translations show up.
There are some glitches and errors in the translation, but it’s definitely a good start for real-time translation.
