It’s a general rule for most airlines to allow you to put a free 24-hour hold on your tickets, but often times that’s too less of a time to finalize the other parts of your travel plans. But Options Away allows you to put a longer hold on your tickets for a small fee.
With fees ranging from $4 to $36, you can hold the ticket anywhere from three days to three weeks, which gives you enough time to finalize your plans with friends that are traveling with you, or just book hotels, tours, etc. while still locking in a good fare. If you decide not to book on the fare, you don’t pay a penalty fee.
A lot of airlines also give you an option to pay up to $99 for free cancellation of tickets within a certain period of time. But Options Away is definitely cheaper and better way to save some cash while able to cancel a booking.
Remember that Options Away works for U.S. domestic flights only, so you’re still out of luck when it comes to international bookings.
Here’s how it works:
- Search for your fare by selecting the airports
- Select flights to option
- Select amount of time to hold
Options Away will monitor your itinerary for 3, 7, 14, and 21 day options and try to find you a lower fare. When you’ve decided which flight is best, just purchase the ticket of your choice at the originally locked-in fare. If you’ve changed plans and no longer wish to purchase the ticket, simply do nothing and they’ll take care of the rest. Make sure to go over their FAQs for all your questions.
