If you are in Nicaragua and taking a tour of Masaya and places around, then your tour guides will stop over that artisan market where you can purchase hammocks, potteries, wallets, etc. that are traditionally made in Nicaragua.
A lot of shops also have some exclusive paintings, but one of them will definitely catch your eye. I saw a painting of a man cleaning his bare bum in one shop and I though this must be the artist’s kink or, let’s just call it, umm, art! But walking through all the other shops, I noticed that there were many different versions of the same ‘idea’, in different colors and variations.
Travelers are usually asked by the shop-owners not to take pictures, but I managed to click this one with my iPhone camera, and at one shop my curiosity was at its height. So I asked the shop-owner what these paintings reflected or did it have any purpose? The first answer was ‘it is art’, but he wasn’t sure why someone painted it. After some other inquiries in various shops, no one really knew the purpose but one shop-owner said that it was one of the best-sellers amongst western tourists, so they all decided to make copies and keep them for sale.
