The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority will be offering free bus and rail service on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve. The free rides will be available on all Metro Rail and Bus lines starting at 9 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 24 until 2 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 25 and 9 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 31 until 2 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 1.
Metro Rail will operate all-night service on New Year’s Eve for those staying out extra late and to encourage easy travel to the Rose Parade inPasadena. However, free fares only apply until 2 a.m. Those traveling after 2 a.m. will need to TAP to ride.
Metro Rail and Metro Bus systems will operate on a Sunday schedule Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, both of which fall on a Tuesday this year.
The free service is to avoid drunk-driving during part of the holiday season.
The TFL website also reports that on New Year’s Eve you can travel free between 23:45 and 04:30 on London Tube, bus, tram and Docklands Light Rail (DLR) services and on London Overground trains after 23:45 until last trains.
There are no refunds or extensions to tickets over Christmas and New Year as a result of reduced services.
