Proof of ID now required for all classes of Indian Railways

November 27, 2012

Indian Railways Reservation counterEarlier this year, we had mentioned that you will need to carry a proof of ID for AC class on Indian Railways. This was mandatory starting February 15 of this year. Now, the government has issued a statement that the same proof of ID is required for booking of tickets on all classes of Indian Railways.

The new rule will go into effect starting December 1, 2012. This provision will, however, not affect the existing provision of Tatkal scheme where during the journey, the passenger is required to show the original proof of identity indicated on the ticket.

We are looking into details on how to provide the proof of ID for booking online at the Indian Railways reservation website and will update here as soon as we have any information.
